Family rock climbing in Corinthia
A couple of years ago, our hotel, Daphne’s Club, was one of the local businesses which participated in the self-financing project Climb Frygani, led by the network Experience Corinthia. All of the routes that were created on this fantastic rock at the foot or the mythological Mount Kyllene were named after the participating businesses. Ever since we have been waiting for an opportunity to try out the route which bears the name of the hotel!
Finally we found an opportunity to go climbing in late August 2019! The whole family set off, along with our friends Elena and Thanasis. Elena is the owner of two very pretty guest house in the village of Kefalari, Archontiko Kefalari & Armonia Hotel (which we recommend very highly if you are visiting that part of Corinthia and find yourself in a romantic mood) and is the heart, spirit and hands mind behind this climbing project. Our little group was accompanied by a professional climbing instructor, Kostas, who along with his able assistant.
We spent an amazing afternoon trying out many of the routes on the Frygani crag (the Daphne’s Club route was not the easiest I admit!). All of us took turns, even the smallest among us!
The funniest moment was when Elena received a phone call from a potential guest of her guesthouse. She answered from the top of the route that she was climbing and gave information about availability and prices!
At the end of the day we went to Kefalari, Elena’s village, and enjoyed a wonderful meal at her aunt’s taverna! We were too tired to drive back and so spent the night in one of Elena’s room in her beautiful guest house.
