New 2024: Electric car charger!
In Spring 2024 we installed our own electric car charger! Our guests can charge their electric car during the night (one car per night shift), while they sleep.

A disclaimer: we know full well that things are not optimal as regards electric cars. First and foremost the electricity used may be generated from conventional/polluting sources, such as coal or oil. Secondly, even when derived from renewable energy sources, such as wind farms, these might not be ideally located or even worse may be outright detrimental to the environment. That being said we choose to abide by the idea presented by Naomi Klein in her book This changes everything: “Mark Z. Jacobson, the Stanford engineering professor who coauthored the road map for reaching 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, says that conventional fossil fuels can power the transition and keep the lights on in the meantime. […] ‘We can rely on existing infrastructure plus the new infrastructure [of renewable generation] to provide the energy for producing the rest of the clean insfrastructure that we’ll need”‘. Admittedly we would have preferred to install the charger along with a set of photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy to power our guests’ cars. Unfortunately, at this stage it was not possible, but we stay with the intention and look forward to realising it in the future.
