Cooking class with Max Miller!
Technically speaking this post should be in the “News” section of our website, but as it has taken me almost a year to write it, it would seem a bit outdated! So, the news which can not be called “news” anymore is that in September 2023 we had the enormous honor not only of having “Tasting History” creator Max Miller as a guest in our hotel, but also of organising a cooking workshop for him!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Max Miller, as was I, he is an American YouTuber who has uniquely combined his love of history, his interest in cooking and his skills in marketing and video creation in an online youtube show he aptly calls”Tasting History“.
The subjects of his videos can be very entertaining: “A Medieval Tavern Meal“, “Breakfast on the Titanic“, “Dinner on Alcatraz“, “Macaroni & Cheese from 1845″, “Markets of Constantinople“, “Feeding a medieval knight” and more, each title more enticing than the last!
Max’s website provides not just the videos, recipes and ingredients, but also his bibliography for the historical context of his shows.
But to jump back to us: we wanted to create a special workshop menu to cook together with Max, with the vegetarian versions of well-known Greek favorite dishes. We chose recipes with local seasonal ingredients, cooked with our chef Lilya’s special twist and eye for detail: a Classic Greek Salad “Χωριάτικη Σαλάτα”, an Aromatic Eggplant Spread “Μελιτζανοσαλάτα”, Vegetable pie with herbs and cheeses “Χορτόπιτα με τυριά”, Vegetarian Moussaka “Χορτοφαγικός Μουσακάς” and a juicy Orange Pie “Πορτοκαλόπια”.
The workshop took place in our garden. We set up a makeshift kitchen in the shade so that Max could enjoy the beautiful environment, as well as the smells and sights of the wonderful vegetables! At the end of the workshop Max and his tour guide Nikos from Greekly enjoyed the whole meal for themselves!
