Strolling by the old railway track

Strolling by the old railway track

May 30th, 2011

Almost a year has passed and much has happened since. Most notably I was pregnant and gave birth in February to a baby daughter. This in order to explain that taking to the mountains and the gorges of the Peloponnese will be out of the question for a while!

Which is not to mean that there is no more to discover. In fact and surprisingly, I have discovered something quite unexpected in our very own back yard, so to speak: the abandoned railway track that used to link Corinth to Patra. The part linking Sykia to Xylokstro passes close to the hotel. It is a quiet route with olive and lemon trees bordering it and there were beautiful bright red poppies everywhere, as it was May when we took our first strolls along it. It is a great place to take a stroller or a bicycle and I even plan to try my roller blades there. Practically no cars pass by, so it’s reasonably safe for children too (NOT unaccompanied of course!).

I also discovered that there is a citizen’s movement to turn it into a bicycle track or to introduce a tram. You can follow this on facebook (in Greek).
